Glimpses In The Deepening Dark

The silo stood silent beneath blue stars,
a tower of shadow looming at night
in the field, away from passing cars—
awaiting the dawn and its waking light.

In the deep-sea darkness sat the school,
empty, its lights like ships lost at sea
awash with an abyss and its rule—
an ignorance that drowns utterly.

The front porch was bleary
with an insomniac glare
while the dormers were dreary
with a dark nightmare.

An obsidian snake
with scintillating scales—
the coiled diamond-back lake
beyond the moonlit rails.
