Haikus

A single candle,
its light a tent in the night
holding back darkness.

Sheltering shadows,
his eyes eschewed the dazzle
of dayside people.

Her blue silhouette
in the bar’s hazy halflight
is but glancing truth.

Lilypad tongues crowd
in gossip’s stagnating pond,
phlegmy with shared slime.
